Happy New Year!
If your case is still ongoing and entering into another year, you are not alone. Many people spend one to three years litigating their cases if they do not have the right attorney.
That is one to three years of time, money, and emotional energy that could possibly be saved or spent with your kids or pursuing hobbies you enjoy. Even if you cannot solve your entire case at one time, it is possible and even advantageous to “bifurcate” some issues and settle them as soon as possible. If you can agree to the division of the pots, pans and personal affects, enter into a partial judgment to get those issues over with! As a mediator, I can write up this partial agreement for you, send it into the Judge for signature and you never even have to step foot in the courthouse. Some mediation clients enter into two or three partial judgments, which is perfectly fine. Sometimes it is easier to break down the case into manageable “parts” and settle the issues in baby steps rather than trying to tackle the case all together. Judges love it if you settle nine out of the 10 issues and go to trial on only one or two issues. Not only does this make the Judge’s job a lot easier, it saves you a ton of money!
I mediate cases for people who are already represented by counsel and for those choosing to proceed without attorneys. Mediation is faster, more costs effective and you don’t pay for any travel or waiting time.
