Keep Your Hair Hydrated In The Summer
The hot summer months are just around the corner! Before we know it we will be spending more time outdoors, enjoying our favorite warm weather activities. We know how important it is to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, however many people do not realize that without protection the sun can wreck havoc on our hair as well. Here are a few tips to remember as we head into summer!
Deep condition your hair once per week. Hair that is regularly exposed to the sun can damage and break easily. A deep conditioner will add elasticity, repair dull and dry hair and smooth the hair shaft. An excellent, very popular deep conditioner may be readily available in your kitchen pantry: coconut oil! Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, you will need three to five tablespoons of unrefined, cold pressed coconut oil. Melt one tablespoon at a time between the palms of your hands and work it into the middle and the ends of your hair. Put on a shower cap and leave the treatment on for at least two hours or even overnight, if possible. The longer the coconut oil is left in the hair to work its magic, the more conditioned the hair will be. Wash it out thoroughly using a high quality shampoo.
Get your hair trimmed regularly, especially during the summer. Just like your skin, your hair can get sunburned and the only way to remove the dry, frizzy ends is by trimming them off. We recommend trims every four to six weeks
Before going out into the sun, use hair products with UV protection to protect the cuticle. Excessive sun exposure is the most frequent cause of damage to the hair shaft. There are many products on the market these days that have UV filters to prevent major damage.
Your hair can survive the upcoming hot months with a little planning and TLC. For more information, contact Great Clips in Canyon Country at 661-298-7383 or Great Clips in Valencia at 661-702-0099. Our Santa Clarita Great Clips family wishes all of our neighbors a happy and healthy summer!
