Understanding Fatigue & Energy in Our Bodies
Fatigue is a very common complaint and it is important to remember that it is a symptom and not a disease. Fatigue can be described as the lack of energy and/or motivation. Often, the symptom of fatigue has a gradual onset and the person may not be aware of how much energy they have lost until they try to compare their ability to complete tasks from one-time frame to another.
There are differences between mental fatigue and physical fatigue. Mental fatigue is a temporary inability to maintain optimal mental performance. Physical fatigue can be caused by a lack of energy in the muscle. Many illnesses can result in the complaint of fatigue and they can be physical, psychological, or a combination of the two. These conditions include depression, headache, immune dysfunction, and neurological conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer and Parkinson.
Over the last two decades, there have been dramatic breakthroughs in understanding how energy is created in our bodies and what is required for lasting optimal function. One important factor is our genes and how our genes interact with the environment, and how this can effect our energy level. Factors that create many of these conditions can be addressed through lifestyle and nutrition. Nutritional balancing programs are specifically designed to improve one’s energy and are extremely helpful for most all cases of low energy. There is a difference between eating right and eating for energy as well as taking the right supplements to help support the body in making energy.
A few simple steps to improve your energy is eating for a healthy gut, having a mindful exercise plan, getting seven hours of sleep every night, and maintaining positive thoughts and relationships.
If you continue to have low energy/fatigue symptoms seek further information from a healthcare provider. Things such as low thyroid, stomach issues, allergies, autoimmune conditions, or low vitamin D could be the cause of the fatigue.
