Success by Encouragement
Success is in the eye of the beholder. Do you know what that means? It means that each person’s success is based on what that person perceives as personal success. One can look at their own life as a success while another can look at that same person’s life as less than successful. Many young adults may feel they are successful while their parents may not share the same opinion of their kids. Probably because parents oftenhold their children to higher standards than children hold themselves to.
My role as a coach, educator and mentor is to make others more successful in whatever areas they’ve hired me to help with. My approach is simple. Do what it take to achieve the success. Getting the best out of others is tricky business. It’s a balance of kicking and hugging, so to speak.
I’ve seen coaches, parents, teachers, trainers, siblings, etc. unintentionally sabotage the very ones they mean to encourage. A coach yelling at a kid that cannot climb a rope only shames the kid. Don’t get me wrong, I think every kid should be able to climb a rope (same goes for adults). If someone in my class cannot climb a rope, I simply simulate the exercises so that they can develop the strength to transition to the rope climb. And it might take some time to build up. And, that ok. It’s the way of life, work for it, earn it.
I leave you with these two thoughts.
1) Have an objective on those you mean to improve. Evaluate if confidence matters in attaining the objective and act accordingly.
2) You may not be the best person to help someone close to you. That may not be your fault, it’s life. We sometimes resist instruction from those closest to us. Sometimes those closest to us resist instruction from us.
For help in being better, or helping someone you care for to be better at sports, losing weight, staying fit, being respectful or experiencing more discipline, shoot me a call, text, email, smoke signal or carrier pigeon.
