Texture and Curls
In the past we have talked about curls and how to identify which curls are on your head. Now let’s talk texture and how to care for different textures in the curly world. Texture is determined by how wide each individual hair strand is, most people know it as fine, medium and coarse textures. What they don’t know is that in the curly world sometimes all these three textures can be present on the same head. Extremely course, coiled, curly hair can live right next to medium texture curly hair. It’s true some textures can co-exist on the same head, if you’re a curly girl reading this, feel the curls around your face and neck. On some people those tend to be the curliest and coarse, for others those areas are finer and thinner since those curls tend to break. The great thing is that out of all hair textures from fine to coarse, curly hair always needs moisture.
So how do we get it? Simple… by using a shampoo and conditioner that doesn’t strip your curls from its natural oils. A combination of peppermint oil, balm mint for moisture and chamomile for shine in the Deva Curl No Poo is perfect for cleansing the hair. Next after shampooing, apply conditioner and distribute though the hair either with your fingers or, if you prefer, a wide tooth comb. This will allow the hair to have some slip making it easy to detangle prior to rinsing. We recommend using Deva Curl One Condition which contains a nice combination of olive oil, lemon grass for moisture and rosemary for shine. For a deeper treatment Heaven in Hair can be done as a weekly treatment or in the salon and works on all curl types. To keep curls happy, trim the ends every three to four months. This keeps the hair healthy and bouncy. Stock up sale for Deva Curl is on now till the end of June.
