Renaissance UV and Ozone Generator for Pools
Renaissance UV and Ozone Generators combine an Ultraviolet Sterilization Chamber with Ozone (O3) disinfection to treat your swimming pool water. These two powerful processes eliminate 99.99 percent of all contaminants in the pool water and reduce the use of pool chemicals up to 80 percent. Unlike salt cell chlorine generators that convert the salt in the pool water to liquid chlorine, the UV and Ozone generator uses no toxic chemicals, no metals or minerals, only pure light and pure oxygen. Using the existing pool pump, a specific amount of water is diverted into the UV/Ozone chamber where it is sterilized to the quality of drinking water. Oxygen infused water is reintroduced into the water flow where it continues to oxidize contaminants in the pool itself. For best results, the pool pump should run at least 12 hours daily, (optimally 24 hours daily) for highest savings in chemical usage and cost and to sanitize the largest amount of water. This means that UV and Ozone Generators are a great fit for your variable speed pool pump that is saving you $1,000 a year in electricity while also running 12 to 24 hours a day.
Another good thing about UV and Ozone Generators is that they work 24/7, 365 days a year. Salt cell chlorine generators only work when the pool water temperature is above 65 degrees. So they can make chlorine only about six months of the year. When you install a UV and Ozone Generator you still need to have some chlorine in the pool water but the pool water will need about 80 percent less chlorine then a regular pool. Normally a pool has a chlorine level of three to five ppm but with a UV and Ozone Generator you only need a microscopic residual of chlorine (.5 to 1.0 ppm). This is recommended for use with UV and Ozone Generators as a supplemental source of disinfection.
The good news is that although UV and Ozone Generators have been used in treating water for over 80 years the equipment cost was $3,000 to $4,000 installed making them way too expensive for the average backyard residential pool. The cost has now dropped to $900 installed, the same cost that a salt cell chlorine generator costs when installed on a residential pool.
A salt cell is rated to last 10,000 hours and then the cell will need to be replaced. The replacement cost is about $700. The light bulb on UV and Ozone Generators is rated for 13,000 hours and the replacement cost is less than $200. They do make it so you need less chlorine, but more important than just saving a little money, they keep the water super clean and clear for a great swimming experience.
