Same Day Crowns
Today’s technology is impacting dentistry in many ways. One of these breakthrough innovations is called CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) and is the epitome of Modern Dentistry. It has been around for over 25 years and provides natural-colored ceramic fillings and crowns in one visit, saving time and inconvenience.
CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology, incorporating a camera, computer and milling machine in one instrument.
A crown, inlay or onlay may be prescribed by your Dentist to restore and protect a tooth that is worn, decayed, cracked or broken. A crown may also be needed to finalize a dental implant, improve a misshapen tooth, improve severely discolored teeth, hold a bridge in place, as well as to protect and support a large defective filling.
A dental crown restores a tooth’s shape, size, and strength. It wraps around the entire visible portion of your tooth or implant and is permanently cemented or bonded.
If a natural tooth-colored porcelain crown is chosen, CEREC CAD/CAM treatment gives patients a completed permanent crown in just one office visit. Other types of crowns require two office visits.
CEREC CAD/CAM uses a special camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. The CEREC 3D measuring camera scans the prepared tooth in just a few seconds. This eliminates the need for unpleasant gooey impressions. This optical impression is transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where CAD (Computer Aided Design) technology is used to design the restoration. Then CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) automatically creates the restoration while you wait. These restorations are milled out of a solid ceramic block in just a few minutes. They are then ready to be placed immediately and eliminates the need for temporaries which can be touchy, break, or come off. Therefore, only one appointment is needed eliminating a repeat visit for the final restoration. The new restoration is bonded to the surface of the existing tooth. The whole process is done in just two hours. You get a custom-fit, long lasting, natural colored crown without repeat visits and unsightly temporary crowns.
CEREC CAD/CAM crowns look better and are easier to get than their traditional counterparts and are metal free, so all you see in the mirror is natural tooth color. They’re an excellent alternative to conventional fillings and crowns.
