The  difference between acrylic and gel nails are that Acrylic nails are applied by your technician using a mix of liquid with a powder and applied with a brush onto your nails. They will cover your entire nail although occasionally tips will be added or a flexible form that can be sculpted to extend your nail bed, then they will fill in the empty area between your nail bed and the existing acrylic nail. Acrylics are used to lengthen the nail or provide a stronger top layer over your natural nail. Of course, overtime your acrylics will grow out with your nails and about every two to three weeks you will need to return to your salon and have your nails filled in.
Gel nails on the other hand, so to speak provide the strength of the acrylic nail but with the appearance of a natural nail. Gel nails only harden when exposed  UV  light and are more natural looking, flexible and glossy than other types of nails.

Be sure to schedule timely appointments  and have regular polishing and remember to protect your nails when doing any type of housework or gardening work.
