Meet Father’s Day Council’s Father of the Year
In partnership with the American Diabetes Association, the Los Angeles Father’s Day Council honored several men who provide for their families as well as their communities. Hosted at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on June 17, the Father of the Year Honorees were presented with the Howard Rosenberg Award, including Santa Clarita’s own Bill Baker.
Mr. Baker and his family live in the Santa Clarita Valley, and he was honored for his philanthropy and advocacy for the American Diabetes Association. The honor itself came as a surprise and was “quite an honor,” he said. He credits the source of his interest in the association to his oldest daughter, Ashley, who has Type 1 diabetes. She nominated him for the “hundreds of hours” he’s donated to the cause, which eventually resulted in this honor.
With an extensive list of film projects on his resume, Mr. Baker has been a Key Grip in the industry for many years, having worked on: Ghostbusters, Rush Hour 2, Beverly Hills 90210 and the Emmy Award-winning series The Tracy Ullman Show. For the past 13 years, Mr. Baker has been working on the hit TV series NCIS.
Diabetes itself is a serious lifelong disease caused by genetics and lifestyle choices, with cases steadily rising over the years. According to the World Health Organization, 422 million adults have the disease, and diabetes itself causes 1.5 million deaths per year. The American Diabetes Association is one of many groups currently campaigning against this disease. The NCIS Charity Golf Tournament is also an event to look forward to this September, with proceeds going to many charities. Bill Baker’s acknowledgement alongside doctors, lawyers and corporate officials is a humbling and inspiring recognition that every effort in the battle against diabetes is a worthy one! Congratulations Mr. Baker, your award is well deserved!
