Chin Implant
Genioplasty, known as a chin augmentation is a common procedure to bring balance to the facial structure. This is done by correcting a weak chin that is a result of a congenital deficiency, age-related bone resorption, or facial trauma.
A weak chin can cause a normal-sized nose to look large and an already prominent nose to appear even larger. It can also give the neck a “fleshy” look. In addition, a chin that is too large can cause a nose to look too small. There is a delicate balance of the face and when a chin is out of proportion you get a distortion of the most prominent feature of an individual. This can easily be fixed by a qualified cosmetic surgeon using the appropriate technique.
There are several ways in which chin augmentation is performed. The first and least invasive method is to inject a soft tissue filler into the chin, such as Juvederm or Radiesse. This is on office treatment, which usually takes about a half of an hour to perform.
The second method is placing a silicone chin implant, which will effectively increase the volume of the chin to bring balance to the face. A chin implant is a method of repositioning the jaw so that the chin sits at an ideal level of protrusion. This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes about one hour.
While chin enhancement can be a relatively simple procedure, it still requires good judgment and skill, as well as a knowledgeable, aesthetic eye.
