Spotlighting Our Youth: Double Feature!
Editor’s Note: As part of the new Spotlighting Our Youth feature, The Magazine of Santa Clarita is proud to share the accomplishments of local youth.
Our September spotlight shines on Santa Clarita Valley siblings Katie and Allison Jacobs, who share not only a name but also a passion for volleyball. Soon to be Freshman at West Ranch High School, Allison Jacobs recently competed as a member of Team USA at the Indoor High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Team USA ended up fighting it out for the Bronze Medal with Team Dominican Republic and took the win three victories out of four matches. Allison also has colleges such as UCLA and Norte Dame already attempting to scout her and has more than enough time to think about her options.
Older sister and incoming West Ranch High School senior Katie Jacobs also has amazing news to share. Much to USC’s dread, Katie Jacobs has committed herself verbally to the Volleyball Program for UCLA and hopes to major in the areas of Business and Finance as a long-term professional goal.
Both girls came to their club starts at young ages, with Katie beginning to play for volleyball clubs at 10 and now playing as a setter. At age 8, Allison followed her sister’s lead after playing soccer for a time and started as something of an all-rounder until she began to come into her own and as a hitter, a role she “just kind of fell into” that appropriately compliments her older sister’s position. Katie has stated that the sisters don’t often compete with one another due to their age and positions but still serve to push each other forward and improve their skills – skills that clearly seem to be getting results.
The future looks bright for these promising young talents, and their enthusiasm is certainly inspiring. Congratulations Katie and Allison! The spotlight is on you, and you’ve earned it!
If you know a young person who is making a difference or has accomplished something great, send us a short write-up and photo for a chance to be featured in Spotlighting Our Youth. Please send submissions to editorial@santaclaritamagazine.com.
