A Sweet New Year: Celebrate Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur (5777) With Congregation Beth Shalom!
Congregation Beth Shalom invites the Santa Clarita Valley Jewish community to join us to welcome in the New Year — 5777!
The High Holy Days begin this year with the observance of Selichot on September 24 when penitential poems and prayers are offered as we lead into the High Holy Days. A week later we celebrate the start of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana. Join Rabbi Ron Hauss and Cantor Ray Cohen for erev (evening) Rosh Hashana services on Sunday, October 2, at CBS. The following morning, Monday, October 3, Rosh Hashana morning services continue at CBS. The holiday concludes on Tuesday morning, October 4, with second day services.
Seven days’ pass, a period of reflection, before we gather again on the “Day of Atonement,” Yom Kippur. The dramatic introduction to Yom Kippur occurs the evening before – Kol Nidre services take place on Tuesday, October 11. Yom Kippur services continue Wednesday morning, October 12 and include the traditional musaf, yizkor and neilah services.
Observances of the three remaining “High Holy Days” fall as follows: Sukkot (October 16-23), Shemini Atzeret (October 23 to 24), and Simchat Torah (October 25). For full High Holy Days service schedule, please contact the CBS office at 661-254-2411.
Congregation Beth Shalom is a warm, welcoming and diverse Conservative synagogue with a forty-year tradition of outreach in our community and a modern and innovative approach to ritual, education, and community service. We offer membership without any financial barrier — if you wish to be part of our Congregation, pledge whatever you can to support our Sacred Community. All are welcome.
Congregation Beth Shalom has much to offer through prayer, education for all ages, tzedakah, celebration, social action and mitzvot (doing good deeds). Our Congregation is open to all those who wish to come and pray, be with fellow Jews, or just come to experience Judaism. In addition to regular religious services, we offer social and educational activities for all ages, including a Bureau of Jewish Education accredited Religious School, a 5-day, licensed pre-school program, and an active United Synagogue Youth (USY) chapter.
