Microblading – Everything to Know about this Eyebrow Trend
Eyebrow trends come and go, from thin and sharp to bold and bushy. But the latest trend we can’t get enough of is microblading, a new tattoo technique that fills brows out or reshapes them by drawing on tiny lines that look like individual hairs.
Tattooed eyebrows sound terrifying, and there’s this stigma of grandma’s blue arch eyebrows, but these are completely different. Microblading leaves brows looking natural, not scary.
Microblading is done with a hand-held tool, which looks like an X-ACTO knife made out of needles. The tool puts pigment into the skin, but doesn’t go as deep as a normal tattoo would. Your microbladed brows should last semi-permanent between one and three years.
The procedure differs depending how much the pigment was absorbed to the client, but most people come twice — once for an initial appointment and then once the brow has healed for a touch-up.
The actual microblading is probably the shortest part of your appointment. A lot of time is spent to know what clients want, what’s realistic for their face and then drawing on them to make sure they’re happy with the shape. For the pain level, it feels like plucking or threading since the brow area is numbed before microblading.
It’s extremely popular in other countries and just now getting popular in the States. But in the next year or so, it’s going to be all you’re going to hear about.
This is a life-changing service to many women who won’t leave the house if their eyebrows aren’t drawn in or they’ll avoid certain activities like a beach day or work out at a gym that will cause their brows to sweat off or wipe off. But (after microblading) they can go to the pool, hot yoga or whatever it is.
For “after-care”, make sure not to get your brows wet or sweat profusely for a week. If you do work out, make sure to cover them with ointment. This is to protect the pigment, keep the cuts clean and bacteria-free by using an antibiotic ointment on brows for the first 24 hours and then a Vaseline-like ointment for a week. Do not pick any scabs that form from the tiny cuts, and avoid using any glycolic acids since they could fade the pigments.
