Three Ways to Feel Good About Yourself in 2017

by | Jan 23, 2017 | Beauty & Bridal & Fashion

There’s no doubt that 2016 has been one car crash of a year. We all know it; the memes show it and almost all of us could not wait for 2017 to begin anew. Most of us look towards the new year to make resolutions and to move forward with the best possible start. For those that feel last year has really taken the wind out of their sails, I’ve taken the liberty of outlining three ways in which to feel good about yourself next year.
Take it easy over New Year’s
It’s hard, I know, but taking it easy over the new year is – unsurprisingly – a great way to bring in the new year. Most of us get time off work over the festive period and therefore use it as a prime excuse to go wilder than your boss at your work Christmas party. However, restraining yourself over the holiday break is the best way to give yourself a brilliant head start in January. There’s nothing worse than returning to work feeling more disheveled and out of steam than you did when you left.
So this year, instead of going out on the town only to find the most expensive, over-packed night disappointing yourself with an incredibly underwhelming NYE countdown and head-splitting hangover on the 1st of January, just don’t this year. Maybe spend it with family, or stay in and bring in the new year by actually being alive on the first day of it.
Do what you want
Fitness is normally at the top of everyone’s priority list when it comes to New Year’s resolutions but there are many other ways to feel good about yourself in 2017. I say after the abysmal year 2016 has been, next year is the time to do what you want – what you really want – and that doesn’t mean doing things your work peers will or won’t think are socially acceptable.
If you’ve always wanted to be in a musical – do it, there are always amateur acting classes. If you want to move abroad – do it, getting a visacan’t be that hard. If you think, hey I could do with a little more in the bust area? You don’t even need to have implants, take the fat from 2016 and add it to your best asset! Always wanted to learn a new language or go back to school? Do it, learning is a great way to feel good about yourself. Basically, do whatever makes you happy, whatever makes you the best, most confident version of yourself – do it, and don’t worry about what people think of you.
Let it go
It’s easier said than done but the best way to shake off the residual anger of a horrible 2016 is to just let go of it. This not only counts for all the incredibly sad celebrity deaths but things in your own life too.
The best way of moving forward is to look forward; that grudge you had for the guy that stole your hummus from the communal fridge at work? Let it go, man. The burning jealousy for that girl that seems to have everything on Instagram? Let it go. And those inevitable Christmas family squabbles? Let. Them. Go. I’m telling you, the less weight on your mind as you move into the new year will allow you to focus on what truly makes you happy.
So whatever your plans are this year, make sure you’re giving yourself time to regroup from the holidays. Let go of your anger (and memories of Frozen) from last year and when looking forward – feel free to do whatever makes you happy.
