What’s the Deal with Eyebrow ‘Microblading’?
When you’ve tried every pencil, powder, pigment, gel, and stencil and your brows are still off shape, microblading is a more permanent solution to thin brows-is the last-ditch-effort treatment that promises to change your brow life. The face tattoo technique isn’t as scary as it sounds. Here is everything you need to know about the treatment beauty trend setters are already obsessed with.
1. Microblading is a form of tattooing.
Unlike a regular tattoo, microblading is a form of tattoo artistry where pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld pen. Your technician draws hair-like strokes with the tool to mimic natural hairs in your brows. Even though it’s not as deep as the regular tattoo it’s still a tattoo because pigment is implanted under the skin.
2. You need preps.
If you drink a lot, take aspirin, or use retinol, stop one week before your treatment. Please avoid blood thinners, aspirin, retinols, glycolic products and alcohol as preps to prevent bleeding.
3. It doesn’t hurt (too much).
Pain is relative. Overall it feels like little scratches or prickling. You might feel it, but it’s not unbearable. During preps, your technician starts to apply topical numbing cream on your brows and tops up throughout the process to dull the discomfort.
4. Microblading takes time.
It will take 1.5 to two hours including preps and you don’t like to rush your technician. Please check in earlier to have enough time for preps.
5. Aftercare is essential.
That means protecting freshly bladed brows from all moisture–no sweaty workouts or washing your face with water. Some people experience itching and redness during the first week. Brows will look slightly darker first, but the color will fade 30 to 50 percent. You have to apply Vaselin or any antibiotic ointment every three to four hours during the first week. Overall they look great right away and you don’t have to hide. Slight redness and mild swelling is normal. However, if you already have prearranged plans such as job interviews, special occasions, please plan accordingly by considering the downtime.
6. Results last up to three years.
Depending on the skin and lifestyle, results last one up to three years and touchup time varies. Please apply sun block on your brows to avoid fading from UV rays and do not apply any glycolic products on your brows.
