The #CHUBBYTRAINER! At Survival of the Fittest Health & Wellness

by | May 24, 2017 | Health & Fitness

Meet James O’Rourke, aka the Chubby Trainer.  Chubby… really… I don’t think so (you’re probably thinking).  What began as a joke between friends turned into a lifestyle and philosophy that fitness, nutrition & personal development coach and Survival of the Fittest owner James O’Rourke has developed and nurtured deeply for the past five years.
“My buddy and fellow trainer Dave created the infamous “Never Trust  Chubby Trainer” T-Shirt and it became very popular in the San Diego area.  At the time I was a little on the Chubby side myself so as joke I started tagging myself as the #ChubbyTrainer. People found it hilarious and my new nickname stuck. Compared to Dave, I always felt like the chubby guy, and I saw an opportunity to turn it into something more… something for real people looking to get healthy. I knew being six percent body fat just wasn’t realistic for most people and it certainly wasn’t necessary to be healthy so I started using the Chubby Trainer concept as a way to teach people about moderation and balance and the rest is history,” said O’Rourke.
A fitness industry veteran, James has used the past 12 years to gain the vast knowledge he prides himself for, as well as the daily life experience working to craft a regime for his clients that provide results—physically and mentally.  His program is rooted in science and everything he does is heavily influenced by evidence based research.
“I believe it’s about adjusting the way we think.  Did you know that the diet our culture has created is referred to as S.A.D. – The Standard American Diet.  And it is rather sad, the options that are available and what is “sold” to us in advertising isn’t always the best,” shared James.  “I teach people how to be healthier yet realistic so that they can still enjoy themselves while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I know that in my own personal fitness journey, I’ve struggle to eat clean and workout consistently at times”.  But as James pointed out as we spoke, it’s not always about eating clean and working out 100 percent of the time.  We are human, and we must embrace being human.  James recently used social media to share his thoughts, and this particular post really resonated with me…
“We all have bad days from time to time. Heck, sometimes we have bad weeks, months and even years. Life is a beautiful disaster so embrace it. You have to take the good with the bad and keep moving forward with a positive attitude. Relax, it’s just a bad day. As it’s been said… this too shall pass!”
It is with this positive and realistic outlook that James runs his program. He provides the knowledge, accountability and motivation that his clients need to achieve lasting results.  It’s all about creating healthy yet realistic habits that will last a lifetime. James is extremely confident that his clients will get result if they follow his program. Heck, he even offers a 100 percent Money Back Guarantee; which is pretty unheard of in the fitness industry.
Starting at the young age of 14 James, now 36, has spent over half his life learning about the human body.  From motivational psychology and personal development to fitness and nutrition as a lifetime student James studies it all if it relates to helping his clients achieve greater health and happiness.  Honestly, I personally believe he could give most medical professionals a run for their money on knowledge of the human body with respect to physical fitness and nutrition. His clients speak volumes about him. James O’Rourke is a lifelong learner, a dreamer and an all-around go-getter.  He takes great pride in helping people and in mastering his craft! In addition to his coaching James’ own personal fitness results as a competitive Men’s Physique Athlete are an astounding example for all of us to aspire too.  I recommend following him on social media for daily motivation and inspiration and all sorts of health and fitness related content. Oh, and you just might see some cute puppy pictures every once in a while too.
