IPL Photo Facials
We all want clear, healthy looking skin, but nature has a way of sabotaging us with frustrating imperfections. Pigmented and vascular lesions can spoil your complexion, age your appearance and affect your confidence. Luckily, photofacial technology (which uses lasers and pulsed light to remove skin imperfections) has been growing by leaps and bounds, thus the term IPL (intense pulse light) has become a very popular procedure.
The photofacial is for people with brown spots/age spots and enlarged blood vessels on the face, neck, chest, arms and hands, with the results being improvement in skin tone and texture. It also improves the more visible signs of aging by decreasing redness, flushing of the skin and discoloration called hyper pigmentation. Dramatic improvement in facial redness (rosacea), sun induced brown spots (freckles), and facial telangiectasias (small facial veins) is achieved.
Immediately after the photofacial treatment, there is a slight darkening of the unwanted pigment. There is often a mild redness around the individual brown spots which gently slough off within the following days. Blood vessels diminish or clear in 10-14 days. Areas of diffuse flushing or redness gradually fade, leaving skin looking clearer and younger. For the first 24 hours after treatment, your skin may feel slightly sunburned and it might appear a bit pink.
Laser skin resurfacing improves the skin’s tone, texture and pore size. It helps to lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as helping pigmentation, melasma (like “pregnancy masks”) and scars. The number of sessions necessary will depend upon the severity of the condition being treated. Results are immediate and progressive and over the course of treatment new collagen begins to form creating overall improvement of the skin.
We suggest that any laser treatments including IPL photofacials, and laser hair removal be done in the fall through early spring, as there is less chance for damage from direct sunlight to the areas being treated. Your doctor or nurse may also recommend that you combine chemical peels, microdermabrasion or other facial treatments before, during or after your IPL series.
