What is the Difference Between Traditional Crowns and Cerec Crowns?
There are many different situations that require a dental crown. There are also several types of restorative crowns your dentist may recommend based on your needs. Cerec crowns allow for the use of advanced technology to deliver high-quality dental restorations in one day. Traditional crowns can take weeks or months to complete. Are you willing to wait day after day to get the restorative dental work you need?
What Is a Crown?
A crown is a protective cap used for tooth restoration. You may need one to cover your tooth after a root canal, or if it is cracked or broken. Dental crowns are used to protect weak teeth that are prone to cracking or breaking. They are also used to cover dental implants and anchor teeth that support a bridge.
What Are the Types of traditional crowns?
The strongest and longest-lasting traditional crowns are made of metals, including gold alloy, palladium, nickel, or chromium. Porcelain fused to metal crowns allow for matching to your natural tooth color. However, they can cause stress and wear on surrounding teeth. You may be able to see the metal where the dental crown meets the gum.
All ceramic or all porcelain crowns can readily match your existing teeth. They can cause wear and tear to surrounding teeth. However, they are ideal for your front teeth because they look almost like your natural teeth. Resin crowns are less expensive than ceramic, porcelain, or metal crowns, but the material is prone to fracturing.
What Is a Cerec Crown?
Cerec crowns utilize computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer-aided design (CAD) to deliver quality dental restoration all in one visit! Digital impressions are comfortable and eliminate the need for messy dental impressions. Cerec crowns are made of one solid block of resin or ceramic, making them stronger than any other traditional restorative crowns.
Different situations call for different types of dental restorations. Your dentist will determine the crown that works best for you. Schedule your appointment today.
