Burn Fat with Fasting
Intermittent fasting (imf) is the easiest way to burn fat and it is super simple. Yes, the word “fasting” is in imf and yes, it means what you think it means, no eating for a period of time. Sounds way worse than it is. I’ll show you how I use it in my life and it’s super simple and easy. It is not, however, for everyone. Diabetics for example should not veer from their prescribed blood sugar protocols.
First, a little biology.
The body has two sources for fuel; sugar in the blood or fat. The body always chooses the most available source which is sugar because it does not require to be broken down like fat. If the blood sugars are to low, the body breaks down fat for energy. So, if you are trying to burn fat, but you introducing foods that convert to sugar, your body burns the sugar and not the fat. After 12 to 14 hours of no calories going in your mouth, the blood sugar is low enough to start burning fat. Boom! That’s a mic drop moment!
I told you I would share how I do my imf lifestyle. But quickly I want to remind you that you are what you eat. So, if you are an adult you need to drink half your weight in ounces of water. Everyday focus on protein, dark green and cruciferous veggies which contain lots of great nutrients and fiber.
I fast four to five times per week. I consume my last calories by 8 p.m. and do not eat again until noon the following day. That is a 16 hour fast. I wake up like someone fired a starter pistol and before you know it, it’s noon. If you feel challenged by it in the beginning you can start with 12 hours and start expanding the time with each fast. Keep some healthy non-perishable snacks like nuts, dried fruits, etc., to bring back up your blood sugar if you ever feel weak. If that happens, you should get some blood work done by a medical professional. Momma says, “better safe than sorry”. Now you have the scoop on intermittent fasting.
