Ditch your Ice Packs & Feel the Relief Only Cryotherapy Can Bring
When I was an athlete in high school and college, the answer to inflammation, muscle and joint pain was an ice pack or, worse, an ice bath. Sure, it was incredibly uncomfortable to “soak” in ice water for 30 minutes or more at a time – but it worked.
But wow – if I could go back in time and swap that wet, bone-chilling experience for three minutes in a dry cryotherapy sauna, especially knowing that cryotherapy is more effective – I’d do it in a second.
Our clients often say the same. “I had to ice my hands every night after work,” shared a female client who struggled with arthritis, swelling and fluid retention in her knuckles. “It’d take about an hour, just sitting there with ice packs, and it never took the pain away enough so that I could stop using Aleve or Motrin – it just made it so that I could work the next day, still in pain.” But after three sessions of cryotherapy and then weekly treatments after that? She hasn’t taken a pain pill in months – and her freezer is now filled with food, not ice packs.
Why can three minutes standing in a cryotherapy sauna – with your head “out” and exposed to the “normal” air in your private room – bring more relief than 30 minutes in a massive tub of ice water or heavy use of ice packs?
First, cryotherapy gets colder. You’ll be exposed to temps hovering around -240 degrees in a cryotherapy chamber, while even the best ice pack, made with chemicals that retain cold longer than your standard ice cube, rarely get below half that. This dramatic cooling of your body’s exterior prompts a massive exodus of inflammation from your body – your extremities, in particular. And because, with a cryo sauna, we’re treating the whole body – not just an isolated area, your entire system gets treated, so you feel better… everywhere. Clients often compare cryotherapy sessions like a “reboot” of a computer, except, in this case, it’s a “refresh” of their entire physiological system.
