2018 Santa Clarita Christian School Graduating Seniors Stand Out
On Saturday, May 26th, 41 SCCS students graduated, celebrating their matriculation to various respected and prestigious colleges and universities.
“This class embodies the character qualities we work to instill and encourage in SCCS students,” shared Wiley Kennedy, Campus Pastor. “These graduates display leadership skills as critical thinkers with compassionate hearts.”
One graduating member of the class of 2018, Sasha Ridenour, is on the waitlist for Dartmouth, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins. She has devoted three years to the Student Leadership Council, created a debate club with a fellow student and participated in various sports teams such as volleyball, soccer and golf. She will be pursuing a Law degree.
“The community at SCCS is strong and supportive,” shared Sasha. “Teachers and administrators love and care for each student. I enjoy knowing each person in my class and being given the opportunity to build relationships with students and adults within the SCCS community.”
Kennedy added, “Several graduating seniors have received high academic honors. Emily Anderson, received the most prestigious scholarship from UC Irvine for a freshman entering from high school – the Regents’ Scholarship.”
Additionally, Emily was offered the Regent’s Scholarship for UC Davis, the Old Gold Scholarship for academics at the University of Iowa and was honored at the Chancellor’s Reception for UC Santa Barbara.
“During my nine years at SCCS, I’ve enjoyed forging personal relationships with teachers,” shared Emily. “One of my favorite memories at SCCS was going on the British Literature trip to England during my junior year. I look forward to majoring in English with a Creative Writing emphasis while getting involved in a Christian club on campus and making friends.”
Another graduating senior, Tim Nakhla, has been at SCCS since Kindergarten. While at SCCS, Tim enjoyed being involved in choir, soccer, CSF and Student Leadership Council. He also had the opportunity to coach an elementary soccer team.
“I love that I have always been able to get one-on-one help from teachers when needed,” said Tim. “SCCS prepared me for the future.” Nakhla will be attending UCSD in the fall and is pursuing a degree in Neurobiology.
With a low student-to-teacher ratio, Advanced Placement and dual enrollment classes and full and half day Kindergarten programs, competitive sports for grades K-12, SCCS partners with families to help produce students who are prepared to make a difference in the world for God.
