Cleanse, Exfoliate and Hydrate Three Simple Steps to Healthy Skin
Cleanse – Not all cleansers are the same and the wrong ones for your skin type can leave surface impurities on dry skin. If you have adult acne, please choose your products very carefully. Most acne products are targeted to adolescents or “teen” conditions. Since your skin isn’t producing as much oil as when you were younger, those products will certainly dry your skin, so it will look dull, flaky and sometimes irritated.
Exfoliate – All skin types need to be exfoliated. At every age your cells turn over more rapidly and as we age, that process slows so you’re always going to have a layer of dead cells on the surface. The method and frequency of exfoliation depends upon your skin type.
Hydrate and Moisturize – Hydrate from within with a good habit of eight, eight-ounce glasses of water a day (at least). Moisturize the surface with a product made for your skin type and age. Most people who suffer from acne will want to look for products that say “oil free” on the label. Again, as we age we need products that are made to tackle dying skin. Also, I recommend that most people start using a night cream around the age of 40 to 45. Your skin needs that extra protection at night too. And whatever you do, don’t forget the sunscreen.
