Save the Curls for the Deva Girls
Now that the Heat has joined us here in beautiful Santa Clarita, here are some easy tips to care for your Curls this summer. Tip one: Make sure you condition; lack of hydration is the biggest culprit to frizz. Humidity and heat also cause frizz especially in hair that is not hydrated. Thirsty curls are looking for moisture, which is why your curls are reaching out into the air for it. They are desperate and it’s not a cute look. Your best bet to combat Frizz is to start in the shower. After you cleanse using a hydrating shampoo like Devacurl no poo in Decadence or Original (if you have fine hair), next condition using Devacurl One Condition in Decadence, Melt into Moisture or Hair in Heaven (for a deeper level of hydration) leave it in for 20 min. to get better results. Tip two: Layer up Styling products. I like to start with a Layer of Cream to give curls moisture. For even more moisture Try Devacurl’s New Decadence Leave in Conditioner. DevaCurl has three Hair creams for your hydration needs from most hydration to least (Super cream, Styling cream, Wave maker). Super cream is for thirsty, dry hair. No matter how many times you condition this hair it is still in need of more moisture. Styling Cream is for curls that just need a little extra moisture and soft hold. Lastly Wave maker is a lightweight formula that doesn’t weigh down hair, it’s an excellent choice for wavy or finer hair. Creams are great to use from mid length to ends. With a Layer of Cream in the hair, layer up a gel to lock in definition and hydration. If you usually opt for gel, consider switching to Arc Angel Gel that provides UV protection and has the strongest hold. For lighter hold use light defining gel. Tip three: Vacuum sealing. If you have to get up early or go on a flight, Lorraine Massey, Devacurl Guru herself suggests putting the Deva Curl gel in your hair but not scrunching out the gel cast this is referred to as “Vacuum Sealing”. Don’t Scrunch until the next morning or after your flight. She said she’s gone hours and hours without scrunching it out, but the wait is worth avoiding bedhead or plane hair. Tip four: Glazing Technique. To maintain frizz free curls throughout the day the glazing technique spreads product over the top of the surface of your hair and lays the frizzes down. My favorite products to glaze with are B’Leave In and Frizz Free Foam. You pump the products into your hands and lightly spread the products over the top layer of your hair and Voila!
