An Inspiration to the Rising Generation
Canyon High School sophomore, Lluvia Partida, is the 2018 Youth of Year of The Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley. The program is designed to recognize service to the Club and community, contributions to home and family life, and excellence in school from the rising generation. Receiving this award is the highest honor of the Club. “We couldn’t be prouder of Lluvia and all she has accomplished and overcome,” said Club President, Ann-Marie Bjorkman. Lluvia has been a member of the Club since 2013.
“Lluvia is an amazing young woman. She has a huge heart! In 2014, in her first year as a member, she baked over a hundred cupcakes then brought them to Club to sell to members, parents, and volunteers and gave all the money to the Club because she wants the Club to have enough money to be here forever,” said CEO Matthew Nelson.
She is a member of the Keystone leadership program where members get to learn skills of leadership through serving the community. “We are fundraising to attend the National Keystone Conference in Denver this summer,” said Lluvia proudly.
When she is not working with the club, Lluvia takes four classes through CalArts where one of her aspirations is to attend the Berkeley School of Music. She was inspired to study the field of music when she attended a music production workshop and visited Westlake Recording Studios.
Lluvia is athletic and involved in sports and she plays for Canyon’s basketball team. The Club’s Athletic Director, Cecil Hammock inspired her to try out for the Canyon Track Team.
Upon being named Youth of the Year, Lluvia’s next step is to move forward with the Los Angeles County Youth of the Year competition where she will join other members of The Boys and Girls Club from various areas of L.A. also named Youth of the Year. To prepare for the county interview, she will first attend two pre-sessions at the Memorial Space Center and ABC7 Studios. Following, Lluvia will go to the NOVO Theatre in Los Angeles where she will represent the Santa Clarita Valley. The L.A. County Youth of the Year will be named. This opportunity helps build members’ confidence as well as leadership skills.
