Hey Curly Girl: Show Humidity Who’s the Boss
Does the summer humidity have your curls feeling drab? Here are some tips on how to keep your mane looking top-notch. Lately, with this heat as soon as you’re done with your hair you start sweating and your hair starts expanding – and not in a good way. The good news is that there are solutions that can help with the humidity. Here are some tips and tricks on how to keep your curls popping all summer and year long.
Tip 1: Deep Condition — And then deep condition more and more like you never have before. Deep condition once or twice a week. Hydrated hair is less likely to look for moisture in the atmosphere. Keeping your hair moisturized is the key to preventing frizz. We have three! Yes girls! Three Curly girl treatments to keep your curls healthy, moisturized and happy.
Tip 2: Find your perfect hair routine. Everyone’s hair is so different and now add the humidity… your normal hair routine needs to be beefed up with something that has more control or hold to block the humidity. Here are some hacks that can be added over your hair to smooth down some of the frizzy fly-away hairs. The lightest product that can be used is the frizz-free volumizing foam. I like to use it to smooth over crazy curls or refresh my curls. The foam can also be raked through the hair as a final step to seal the look. Some of my clients with thicker hair like using the super cream to keep their curls intact. Another one of my clients adds a pump of foam to her cream for a double power end result.
Tip 3: Leave It In! By either using a leave in or leaving in the gel cast. The gel cast is created after you scrunch any one of the Deva gels. The cast can be broken by scrunching after the gel has dried but by leaving it in your style and curls could last longer. Letting the gel cast soften on its own will prevent the hair from getting frizzy and preserve the curl definition longer. Bonus hair hack: add some conditioner, either melt into moisture or one condition to a small water bottle with water and use it to refresh your curls throughout the day!
