Planning for the future can be difficult if you’re Stuck in Debt
Unlike other problems in life that sometimes just go away on their own, debt problems tend to get worse over time if ignored. The situation can be nerve-wracking.
As a bankruptcy attorney, I tell clients that they don’t need to remain stuck where they are and there are often solutions available. Don’t confuse “hard” with “impossible.” Some things may be hard, but they are not impossible. Adjusting your thinking may help you gain a better perspective.
Life is all about making choices. The choices we make today determine our future. What will your life be like three, five or 10 years from now if your situation never changed? Will you be financially secure? Will you remain in the same job or perhaps move somewhere else that makes your time more worthwhile? Will you be able to send your children to college? Will you be able to retire comfortably and enjoy your older years?
These are questions that go through people’s minds all the time. Unfortunately, when you’re in debt, it’s not easy to come up with the answers to them. Why? Because being in debt restricts your options most of the time. When you’re in debt, you’re basically just in “survival mode” all the time- barely keeping your head above water. There’s no planning for the future. Your mind is just filled with money worries all the time.
If your debt problems have taken over your life, something needs to change- and the sooner you take action, the sooner you will turn things around.
