Zonta Club
Three Zontians are featured in The Signal’s list of “51 Most Influential” people in the Santa Clarita Valley for 2018. Marsha McLean, Santa Clarita Mayor Pro Tem is No. 13 on the list; she has repeatedly proven herself to be one of the city’s strongest supporters. With background in local and federal government, she has worked diligently to bring transportation and business to the City, plus address environment concerns. Marlee Lauffer, identified as No. 31, has earned acclaim as spokeswoman for Newhall Land and gained national exposure for Valencia during the “Awesometown” campaign! She now plays a similar role for Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital as vice president of marketing and communications. Earlier this year she was named ‘Woman of the Year’ for the state’s 21st District by Senator Scott Wilk. Dr. Cherise Moore, a member on the governing board of the William S. Hart Union High School District, ranked No. 50 as wanting to make a difference in the community. She is a dedicated advocate for all students and has helped usher in many renowned college and career readiness programs.
Zonta members are proud to add two new programs and one new scholarship that will be offered to women and girls that meet the mission of empowering women.
“Stemming the Tide of Human Trafficking” (partnering with Zoe International and Fostering Youth Independence) will offer services/activities to recently emancipated foster youth and teens at Camp Scott. A series of LifeForward workshops and other activities will be available to promote self-sufficiency and prepare Camp Scott teen girls to enter adulthood. Women in Technology Scholarship will be offered to women pursuing a degree in Information Technology (IT) or who are currently employed and wish upward mobility.
