Poetry Project Winners Announced
Ten poems have been selected as the winners of the 2019 Sidewalk Poetry Project and will be stamped into City sidewalks this spring. Last year, the community was invited to submit original poems for a chance to get them stamped into cement sidewalks throughout the City as part of the Public Works Department’s sidewalk rehabilitation program.
The Sidewalk Poetry Project was identified as a public art project, as part of the 2018 Arts Commission Work Plan and Public Art Proposal. The public was asked to submit original poems drafted in the theme of “Poetry of Place,” focusing on landscapes and the built environment, reflecting shared spaces in the community.
After a review of 281 poetry submissions by an Artist Selection Committee, the following ten winners were selected for their poems: Jaclyn Bennett, Oliver Bunkell, Amy Hough-Dugdale, Katherine Kihiczak, Abby Kirby, Linda Ravenswood, Hailey Rutter, Valerie Swanson, Katherine Ward and Abi Wurdeman. To read the winning poems, please visit www.SantaClaritaArts.com.
The winners will be receiving a $150 stipend and are invited to attend a Sidewalk Poetry project dedication to be scheduled sometime in the spring. The poem locations and dedication ceremony will be announced at a future date.
