Mother’s Day Only One Day?
Generations come and go since the beginning of time. Yet, it seems like we hardly take a moment to appreciate the mother/child wonder. When I got married it was hard leaving my entire family behind, as there are moments when a girl needs her mother beside her. Such special occasions were the births of my children, especially becoming a mother for the first time. I missed my mother’s support, but I was so lucky to have had my mother-in-law. I had the honor of calling her “mom”. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to hold my hand and babysit my kids throughout the years! And then she thanked *me* for giving her the pleasure of enjoying her grandsons.
Mother- a word associated with home, food, wisdom, caring, and loving. Mother’s day isn’t only once a year. It’s 24/7, year round. No breaks or holidays, even after the goslings leave the nest. In the midst of her other million chores she always cares for her children. They’re always on top of her list. Their achievements are her biggest pride and joy.
Yes, having a mother is a given, but a strong and loving relationship with her is not. Building such relationship takes work, like any other relationship does. Know that the connection between a mother and her children is the most important in her life. Just as there are no two kids alike, no two mothers are alike. Separate yours from the crowd to appreciate her uniqueness.
“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” (Kallil Gibran). Mothers teach their children about their roots and give them wings to soar.
I’m grateful for each of my four sons, my amazing gifts I was given and the privilege of them calling me Mom. We have a beautiful loving bond. I hope they’ll experience that love from their children too. If you’re lucky to have your mother with you, please show her your gratitude, love and respect, before it’s too late. (What’s a Jewish mother without the guilt?) Special thanks and love to my sons, and an honorable mention to my wonderful husband, Dennis, who made it all possible. Happy Mother’s Day to y’all!
