UCLA is a Leader in Prostate Imaging and Image Guided Biopsy Newest Diagnostic Tools Available
Men in the Santa Clarita area are able to receive the best and most advanced 3 Tesla (3T) Prostate MRI Scanner in their own community, adding to the cutting-edge radiology services already available at UCLA-Health Santa Clarita Imaging and Interventional Center, Prostate screening at UCLA-Health Santa Clarita Imaging and Interventional Center also provides a gateway to UCLA’s internationally recognized multidisciplinary prostate cancer expertise in radiology, urology and radiation oncology services for those diagnosed with the disease.
Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in men (after skin cancer) and the second leading cause of cancer death in American men. However, screening with physical exam and the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test has shown only modest effects on mortality, such that the US Preventive Services Task Force recommends against screening with PSA.
Providing optimal prostate cancer care has been challenging in part because of the difficulty in distinguishing patients with non-aggressive cancer who do not need treatment from those with aggressive disease who do.
The new diagnostic 3T MRI at UCLA Health Imaging and Interventional Radiology Center is a significant advancement in guided biopsy techniques and allows radiologists to obtain more precise and accurate diagnoses, especially in the high-grade cancers, which are more likely to grow and spread.
Multiple UCLA studies have shown that 3T MRI improves detection, grading, and staging of prostate cancer and enables more individualized prostate cancer care.
UCLA Health also utilizes the latest In Bore and fusion MRI guided biopsy techniques and offers access to the newest clinical trials for treatment of low and intermediate grade prostate cancers. In fact, UCLA is the only Southern California health system to offer Gallium 68 PSMA PET, another advancement in diagnostic imaging and image-guided biopsy. Some services are only available at Westwood or Santa Monica locations.
UCLA Health-Santa Clarita Imaging and Interventional Center is open weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm, with extended hours for MRI studies. The center accepts most insurance plans and cash payments.
UCLA-Santa Clarita Imaging & Interventional Center is committed to providing outstanding patient care by combining excellence in clinical imaging, research and educational programs with state-of-the-art technology.
