Your Transmission
What is a transmission, you ask… it is a fairly amazing machine and it can shift your car’s gears. It can know how fast you need to go and how quickly you need to get there. How it actually works is a mystery to most people. There are many parts within the transmission and some of the key parts are: Bell housing, this is the cone shaped metal case that you can see when you look underneath your car. Gears: an automatic transmission has gears, they are broken into main gears and planetary gears and you need all of these to be able to drive your car. Fluid: the transmission fluid is very important to your automatic transmission Filter: All of the fluid has to be clean for your car to shift properly and at the right time. The filter for the transmission keeps the fluid clean by catching all the debris.
Your transmission may experience two problems. One, it won’t go and two, it won’t go smoothly! These two problems are caused by the same faults in your transmission. So, we ask then, is your fluid level correct? It should be checked at least twice a year. Low fluid level can cause your car to shift poorly and can cause damage to your transmission and a costly repair.
Is your transmission leaking? The transmission is a closed system so there are only a few places that can spring a leak. The filter is essential to the transmission’s performance.
