Come Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Santa Clarita Skatepark! Message from the City Manager Ken Striplin
It’s hard to believe it has been 10 years since we cut the ribbon and welcomed skateboarders to the brand new Santa Clarita Skatepark. Now, a decade later, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary on Saturday, October 19, at the Santa Clarita Skatepark (20840 Centre Pointe Parkway).
In addition to this milestone event, members of the City Council will also unveil a new public art piece by Miguel A. Del Real. The piece, titled “Inertia,” is a mural that will be painted onto the staff building at the skatepark and transform the entrance with a vibrant design and color scheme that is visually appealing and resonates with the skateboarding community. Last February, Mr. Del Real held a three-day art workshop, engaging with the public and soliciting feedback from the skating community to help develop the mural design.
The public art dedication will begin at 10 a.m. just inside the entrance to the skatepark. After the dedication, community members are invited to stay and watch a scheduled skateboarding demonstration to celebrate the Santa Clarita Skatepark’s 10th anniversary. Attendees will also be able to connect with event sponsors and local vendors, enjoy music and grab a bite from a variety of food trucks.
If you have young children who are interested in skateboarding or riding a scooter, I also encourage you to meet with our staff in the Recreation and Community Services Department at the event to learn more about the Junior Ride Program. The City has reserved time at the skatepark each week for young riders under the age of 12. Every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., young riders have exclusive use of the park so they can have fun, build confidence and work on their skills at their own pace. Full safety gear is required for young riders, and they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Please join us for this celebration! More information on the public art dedication and 10th anniversary event, as well as the Junior Ride Program, can be found at www.scskatepark.com.
