The Best of Our Hometown Brought to you by Carl & Jeri Goldman
One could say communication is in their blood…
Both second generation radio industry veterans now, Carl and Jeri first worked together at Westwood One Radio back in the late 80’s. Though the two worked in separate divisions at Westwood One, one fateful evening at a Laker game the pair became “Carl & Jeri”.
The couple spent the next 10 years in a whirlwind of forward movement by first purchasing a local Santa Clarita radio station-Saddleback’s AM-1220 KBET, then relocating to SCV and getting married the following year. Eventually Jeri moved on from Westwood One to take over management at KBET while Carl continued starting radio stations in neighboring cities.
A sale of the station in 1998 would lead the Goldman’s to 2003 when they bought it back—branding it KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s Hometown Station. Nearly 16 years later as KHTS (and 30 years since the original KBET purchase), the Goldman’s are incredibly proud of their most recent addition, FM 98.1.
“The response has been fantastic! The addition of our FM station has opened up a new demographic of listeners to the station. We have seen an increase in readers to the website as well as followers on social media. And while we are incredibly well-known for our emergency coverage, we are also proud of the local stories we share,” shared Carl. “Relocating to Old Town Newhall was a pivotal move. Both Jeri and I love running the radio station on Main Street. The revitalization of Old Town is wonderful, the vibe of the street invites you in and it’s relaxing to stroll the City blocks.”
Returning from their Road Trip to Sacramento in March, the Goldman’s were honored to accompany 120 community leaders to our State Capitol for the 14th year as well as take the inaugural group from the Antelope Valley with plans already in the works for a second trip next year.
“We are in a time when having knowledge and understanding it are critical. These trips to Sacramento give us a unique perspective on what our leaders, lawmakers and executives are planning for the future of California, and our nation,” shared Jeri. “Carl and I both believe it is vital to be involved.”
And just like KHTS focuses on sharing information, they also love sharing great music too! Save the date for country music star Sara Evans to hit the stage at the Canyon Club with special guest Savannah Burrows on June 4. You can purchase tickets on ticketmaster.com starting at $40. Showtime is 7:45 p.m.
