A Message from SUPERVISOR Kathryn Barger – CHAIR OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Dear Santa Clarita Valley Community,
I have heard from many of you about the challenges you’re facing as a result of COVID-19. The order issued by the State of California, and the accompanying one from Los Angeles County, have greatly impacted every person, business, and organization throughout the region. These orders were implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of all our residents, but I am keenly aware of the significant financial impacts and business closures that have resulted from this public health crisis. I know we’re all deeply affected by limited social interactions with family and friends and the confines of how we’re engaging within our communities.
I continue to work closely with Mayor Cameron Smyth, along with County Health Officials, to support a full reopening as soon as possible, keeping public safety in mind. As you may be aware, Mayor Smyth has reached out to my office to seek a variance for the North County communities, including Santa Clarita. I asked Los Angeles County Counsel and the Department of Public Health to examine the possibility of enabling your communities to move forward with their own plans tailormade for residents.
The State and County have begun our journey of relaxing public health orders and have opened many businesses. This is a meaningful step toward economic recovery. We will continue to work on recovery efforts in the coming months, and I am committed to ongoing collaboration with the City, the Economic Development Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Valley Industry Association, small and large businesses, and many others. There are many bright, creative innovators throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
For years, my office has partnered with leaders throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, supporting the projects and programs that matter most to this community and providing funding and resources to make life better. We continue to work together in the face of crises and emergencies to mitigate damage and protect the people we are elected to serve. We have never battled a global pandemic at this scale, which has caused death and financial devastation throughout the County. This truly is unchartered territory.
This journey toward recovery will not be easy. Please know I will continue to hold true to my promise to work together, in the best interest of this community, just as we always have.

It didn’t require a crisis to prove that the Santa Clarita Valley is incredible, but in the face of COVID-19, our Los Angeles County communities have outdone themselves in showing compassion and teamwork. I am so impressed by all the community members who have reached out to ask how they can lend a hand, and by our government and private sector partners who have sprung into action to help.
