What is Maskne?
We’ve been admiring everyone’s incredibly stylish masks. Bright colors, fun prints, and even bling! So many have taken mask fashion to the next level, which is great and our health is the utmost importance! But now there is an actual thing called Maskne! Maskne is popping up as a common side effect of wearing the PPE/face masks, it’s a real and completely treatable condition where our facial skin gets irritated from the prolonged wearing of the mask. This includes breakouts, rashes and dry skin patches.
One reason maskne happens is when we are wearing a mask our breath causes moist air which gets trapped and can cause bacteria to grow and spread, there are some simples things you can do to treat it, so let me share!
Wash & Tone Your Face – Now’s the time to take care of your skin with a cleanser that isn’t irritating or drying. Cosmetic Concepts Orange Souflee or Panthenol Cleanser are 2 great choices that easily cleanses away dirt, oil and bacteria to help treat and prevent breakouts. It’s gentle enough to use every day yet powerful enough to help you see clearer skin in as little as a few days. Our Oil-Free Visibly Moist Toner puts your skin back to its natural PH while not over drying it. This convenient spray toner just take a minute to apply after cleansing and makes all the difference! Cleanse morning and Night. (The Toner is also great to do as an extra wipe on a clean tissue while your wearing the mask, just lift the mask and wipe and refresh your skin. This really helps!
Wear An Oil-Free Or Lightweight Moisturizer During the Day -This may seem counter productive if face masks are causing production of extra moisture, but it is the wrong kind of moisture. An Oil-Free or Lightweight Moisturizer serves as a good kind of hydration while it acts as a protective barrier. Nothing heavy that clogs pores. Cosmetic Cosmetics Oil-Free Defense or Daily Moisture Protection are great choices. Both are lightweight and have SPF 15 Protection!
Skip the Heavy Makeup – Our mineral makeup is light, healthy and lets your skin breathe. We custom blend it in just minutes. We can do this from a picture or facetime too! And you can pick up all products with no contact or have shipped.
Wash Your Mask – If you wear reusable cloth face masks, wash it after every wear using hot water (unless otherwise recommended) and a gentle detergent. Harsh detergents have the potential to make maskne worse. You can toss it in the washing machine or wash it by hand. Rotate so you always have a clean mask handy!
Other easy tips: avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliators, retinol products may irritate maskne and try to keep your hands away from your face.
