“Moving Along” And The Poor Little Squirrel
Last month’s article was about the different legal standards applied in move away cases. This month, it is about a poor little squirrel and “moving on”, a phrase I hate more than Prius Drivers who wear face masks when no one else is even in their car. Gotta be honest. That phrase: Move along. Something like 7 years later, and I still can’t do it. So, what exactly does my moving on have to do with a squirrel? And, is there a legal lesson to be learned? You know there is.
Over the weekend, I was driving my Red Corvette, winding through the back roads on Elizabeth Lake Road, my younger daughter glued to the passenger seat. We were both kinda screaming along to “Move Along”, a song by the All-American Rejects, as it blared through my speakers. We were just at that part where the lyrics repeat: “When all you got to keep is strong move along, move along like I know you do. And even when your hope is gone move along, move along just to make it through.”
I increased my speed ever so slightly and … ran right over a squirrel. Killed the poor thing instantly. So, first, to the squirrel’s immediate family, my condolences. Second, to any of you going through a contentious family law matter, maybe you have done one or two crazy things in the name of love? Have you ever publicly proclaimed your love for someone before the entire Santa Clarita Valley like I just did? Probably not. Perhaps a very public apology for all of the hurt you caused? To the most beautiful woman ever, LM, I am so very, very sorry. May God bless you with the love and happiness of someone much better than me.
And now my readers, your legal lesson: If you are going through an acrimonious family law matter, please look back fondly on the one or two of the crazier things you might have done in the name of love. Remember those once cherished memories and: SETTLE YOUR CASE. Move along, so to speak. Yeah, I know. I’m a hypocrite.
