Spring Clean Your Finances
While scrubbing your kitchen and purging your closet, don’t forget to add your finances to the Spring-cleaning list! Taking the time to organize and evaluate your financial situation will help clear your mind and keep you on track with your plan. If you’re nearing or in retirement, here is how we suggest sprucing up your financial house this season:
Organize your paperwork: Whether you keep digital files or prefer a paper-filing system, take the time to reorganize your financial records into folders. Having a systematic approach to filing helps to keep your house and your mind decluttered.
Account access: Avoid having to click “forgot my password” the next time you log on to view your accounts. Save account names, account numbers, usernames and passwords in one, safe and secure spot. Make sure your spouse and/or adult family members know where to locate this file.
Review your finances: It is recommended to review your finances regularly, regardless of the season. Although this sounds like a basic task, it is often ignored. Review your accounts, spending and budget to confirm that you are on track with your plan and don’t forget to consider a strategy to help maximize your Social Security.
