The New Canyon Country Farmers Market
The new Canyon Country Farmers Market opened to a large crowd on April 27th. Located at the new Canyon Country Community Center, the certified farmers market will be held every Wednesday from 4pm-8pm. It will feature small family farms from around Southern California who will bring fresh and seasonal produce to Canyon Country each week.
The market will also feature ranch-direct meats, fresh flowers, olive oil, a dairy, honey, fresh seafood and other artisan foods. Ready to eat food is available on site and includes Texas style BBQ, New Orleans Cuisine, Cuban food, a local taqueria and artisan pizzas. The market is held next to the park at the community center which includes picnic tables, large grass areas and a childrens play area.
Produce at certified farmers markets bypass the traditional supply chain meaning produce is often picked a day or two before the market. “The supermarket supply chain takes time,” said Canyon Country Farmers Market Manager Larry McClements. “Most supermarket produce is several weeks or months old. We bypass that and have some of the freshest produce you can get.”
McClements also manages the Saturday Old Town Newhall Farmers Market which continues to operate every Saturday from 8:30 until 1pm in the parking lot of the Old Town Newhall library. The Saturday market is entering its 8th year of operation and has been wildly successful.
The new Canyon Country Farmers Market will give Santa Clarita residents a 2nd place to pick up fresh farm direct produce. For the most up to date information, follow the Canyon Country Farmers Market on Facebook or Instagram or visit www.canyoncountryfarmersmarket.com.
