A Message from the President of the Hart District Teachers Association John Minkus
Hello Santa Clarita! My name is John Minkus and I’m the President of the Hart District Teachers Association otherwise known by our acronym, HDTA. I appreciate the opportunity to introduce our association to the Santa Clarita Valley community. We are the organization that represents and supports the certificated employees of William S Hart Union School District. Our primary purpose is to secure the best conditions for our approximately 1100 “teachers” and 22,00 plus students. The term teachers is in quotation marks to represent all Hart employees who are certificated to support our student population. Those include numerous titles and positions including counselors, psychologists, speech therapists, many other specialists, and of course your classroom teachers. All of our HDTA professionals have the best interest of students as their number one priority.
Hart District Teachers Association is a union that provides support services to professional educators in our public secondary schools. We are affiliated with the California Teachers Association (CTA) and National Education Association (NEA). We are the local affiliate of those larger organizations with our narrowed focus being the Hart District which gives us the freedom to adapt to the needs of our unique population. A large percentage of our staff are residents of Santa Clarita which helps us in our ability to stay focused on local issues affecting the Hart District.
HDTA is proud to be the driving force behind a district that is recognized as one of the best in all of California. Our focus is solely aimed at creating the best teaching and learning environment we can. We all recognize the difficulties of the past couple of years and the effects on our educational system. HDTA is always working to support the diverse group of “teachers” who are working tirelessly to get back to some kind of normal. HDTA believes that all students deserve the “opportunity to succeed.”
Hart is a community based district and HDTA is a part of that community. The widespread involvement benefits all aspects of the Hart District and establishes US as a model district across the state. HDTA is an advocate for everyone, teachers, students, and the plethora of community players for whom we are grateful. HDTA will continue to be a driving force behind the outstanding teaching and learning in the William S Hart Union High School District. We are in this together. We are “One Hart!”
