Meet the Candidate Sharlene Johnson Running for Saugus Union School District Area 5
As a parent of two children 8 years old and 10 years old, my attention is drawn to mentoring the future of my children, and those whom I can impact with my efforts in our community. The pandemic affected every family differently, I got to experience the implications of the social, emotional, and educational impacts firsthand as a parent. Being the daughter of an educator and past school Board Member of the Acton-Agua Dulce School District, development and emotional support of our youth has always been a focal point. Our District must provide the best for our children, collaborate with, and support our dedicated teachers and staff and prepare our students for what’s next while understanding any barriers they face. I have been involved in non-profits and community service since my mid-teens. I have seen first hand how much of a change we can make when we engage. Right now, the board lacks a voice from the parent’s side. We have endured a lack of inclusive leadership from the executive team who have demonstrated on multiple occasions the unwillingness to include parents and listen to their grievances with the true desire to support. A parent’s voice matters and should be represented. I will make sure you have a voice.
