Your 2023 Resume Recipe – Some Special Sauce, Please
Do you hear it? It’s the impatient rustling of the final pages of the 2022 calendar, beckoning us to make our visions of success real, and create a retooled, authentic version of ourselves for the start of the new year. 2023 is now just three…months…away!
In this 23rd year of the 21st century, what will you do to
magnify the meaning in your life, to energize your work, and
call others to your leadership?
Now is the time to add the “special sauce” to your recipe for accelerating your learning curve, embarking on new approaches for connection, and updating your model for success.
What will it take for you to ”find your groove”? Consider improving your skills in these areas: leading discussions, managing meetings, evaluating performance, writing uplifting words for motivation. If you feel a confusing combination of enthusiasm and reticence in these areas, know that it’s not that you are either a gifted communicator or you are not. These are all skills that are learned and practiced, and confidence grows.
Toastmasters was created and has become an international organization to provide you with that learning and practice to be able to add these skills to your resume. Toastmasters has developed a variety of “Pathways” for your choice of study, and a group of friendly, supportive members who, like you, are improving their skills.
What happens at a Toastmasters meeting? Each one is both entertaining and a learning experience. You will hear the stories of other members as they practice speaking to the group. Recently, at a typical Outliers Toastmasters meeting one member practiced her speaking by telling us of her Ghost Story experience at a young age…we were all gasping at the ending! Another member spoke of her journey moving from Russia to England and, finally, to the U.S. to attend UCLA. Her courage and accomplishments astounded us! At another meeting a speech started with the statement “I am an Alto in a world of Sopranos!” Don’t you want to hear what followed that opener?
Practicing your communication skills with the camaraderie and support of a like-minded group of people, you will find that your co-workers will lean in to hear what you have to say! Besides our group meetings, we offer one-on-one mentoring support if you want it. For more information about attending a Toastmasters meeting as our guest, please contact our VP of Education Tom Iland on 661-313-3323 or tom@thomasiland.com.
