Meet the Candidate Bill Cooper Running for SCV Water Board
This November’s election for the SCV Water Board is the most important and crucial one ever. We are in an extreme drought cycle and it takes knowledgeable and experienced water professionals to keep the water flowing in the Santa Clarita Valley.
My career has been in the water business working for Metropolitan Water Company for 40 years managing five of the largest water treatment plants in the US providing water to 19 million residents in Southern California.
As a local water customer, you want to be sure that your family is always provided safe drinking water. I want the same for my family and as a licensed Water Treatment Professional, my number one objective is to provide safe water to the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley. I fought hard to enforce the clean-up of the Whittaker-Bermite site requiring the polluter to pay over $100 million to restore our water supply. And I am working just as hard to ensure that the newly found PFAS contaminants be removed from our water making the SVC Water Agency a leader in PFAS remediation in the nation.
In 2018, I led the effort to merge all four of the Santa Clarita water agencies to form one agency saving millions of dollars to the residents of Santa Clarita and I served for two years as Board President of the newly formed SCV Water Agency. I am a strong proponent of careful fiscal management and consistently vote only for the expenditures that best serve you, our ratepayers.
I support the banking of excess water in groundwater storage programs to ensure that our valley can meet our water needs in dry years. My long experience in the water industry promotes relationships with other California Water Agencies facilitating joint efforts to provide water reliability to our valley. And I strongly support water conservation incentives and programs to save our valley’s water.
I am an experienced water professional. Please re-elect me to the SCV Water Board of Directors to continue to provide cost effective, safe and reliable water to the Santa Clarita Valley.
