A Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy
That is a song by the Kinks touting an important message about fame. While I am neither a rock and roll god nor even famous for that matter, it is my belief that the Davies Boys probably got it right. I couldn’t sleep last night, and with the help of IMDB, I watched the third episode of the first season of the Carol Burnett Show. The show made its debut on my birthday in 1967.
Anyway, each of the episodes starts with Carol turning on the lights and asking questions of the audience members. The lights come on and Carol asks if “Liz” is in the audience. The cameras pan and there before my eyes is honestly, the sight of one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. It was Elizabeth Montgomery, the star of Bewitched. I am not exaggerating her beauty and with IMDB being free, I challenge you to see for yourself. For those of you who have not seen the show, it ran from 1964 to 1972 and was about a witch, who marries a mortal man, trying to lead the life of a normal housewife. The show’s message that different types of people can fall in love and be together was lost on me until last night. But again, I digress.
So what ever happened to Liz? Well, for starters, she died at the age of 62. Cancer. As it turns out, Liz was married four times. The first, a very short marriage of less than a year to a NYC socialite. Next, a 7 year marriage to an Academy Award-winning actor. Third time is a charm. Liz married the director/producer of the Bewitched show. During the eighth year of the show, Liz fell in love with a director and had an affair. It ended both of their marriages as well as the series, which was green lighted for at least another year. That relationship lasted 2 and a half years. Liz did marry a fourth time after living with her husband first for 20 years.
A few points to be made here. First, older family law cases are not that much different than the cases I see in my practice today. Two, all people have problems. And three, things for other people are never as great as they seem. Hence, be thankful for the life you have been given, a point well made by the Kinks with their song.
