Monthly Message Mayor Jason Gibbs – July 2023
Get ready for a celebration in honor of American Independence Day. The Fourth of July is upon us, and it’s time to come together as a community to honor our great nation and showcase our unwavering patriotism. As we celebrate, let us remember the ideals and freedoms our country holds dear. In the spirit of community and country, I invite you to join us in the various celebrations taking place throughout the City of Santa Clarita.
The first celebration is the annual Independence Day Classic 5K. This invigorating run takes you through Newhall and fills you with a sense of pride as you journey along the very route of our hometown-favorite Fourth of July parade. The run will begin at 8:00 a.m. and features one of the best cheering sections in Southern California. Along with the 5k, there will also be a 10k at 7:00 a.m. and a Kids K at 7:45 a.m. For more details and to register, visit scrunners.org.
Next, prepare to line the sidewalks of Main Street and Lyons Avenue for our spectacular SCV Fourth of July Parade. At 9:00 a.m., behold the captivating floats as they make their way through the streets of Newhall. The parade will journey from the roundabout in front of William S. Hart Park to Orchard Village Road and Dalbey Drive.
Finally, the highlight of the day awaits us at Valencia Town Center. As the sun sets, watch as the Spirit of America Fireworks Spectacular lights up the night sky. The awe-inspiring show will begin at approximately 9:20 p.m.
For this Fourth of July, I urge you to prioritize safety and leave the pyrotechnics to the professionals. Let’s gather our loved ones, find the perfect spot and marvel at the breathtaking exhibition illuminating our City’s night sky.
