A Note From the Publishers – July 2024
July 4th is a pivotal day in the United States, celebrated as Independence Day. This date in 1776 marks when the Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence, officially severing ties with British rule and founding a new nation—the United States of America.
Independence Day is a moment to honor and reflect on the sacrifices made by the Founding Fathers and countless others who fought for freedom. It stands as a testament to the enduring principles of equality, justice, and individual rights upon which the nation was established.
The holiday fosters a strong sense of national pride and unity as people across the country gather to celebrate shared traditions, values, and diversity. Festivities include parades, fireworks, picnics, and family reunions, creating a lively and celebratory atmosphere that highlights the American spirit.
In Santa Clarita, the 4th of July parade in Old Town Newhall is a beloved tradition.
This spirited celebration features an array of colorful floats, marching bands, community groups, and local businesses. Crowds line the streets to soak in the festive atmosphere and patriotic fervor. This annual event unites the community in celebrating Independence Day and paying homage to the nation’s rich history and values.
For a decade, we’ve enjoyed spotlighting the wonderful business owners of Old Town Newhall on our cover, and this year continues that tradition. We’re also delighted to showcase a group of City of Santa Clarita Councilmembers who encourage us to shop locally and support our businesses. The merchants in Old Town Newhall create a vibrant and diverse local scene with their charming historic buildings, unique shops, and a wide variety of businesses catering to different interests. They offer a welcoming and friendly environment, making it a popular destination for both residents and visitors seeking a unique shopping and dining experience.
The City of Santa Clarita is excited to announce the 2024 Fireworks show, which will take place at Valencia Town Center. Concerts in the park are also making a return, featuring a diverse lineup of bands—check out our calendar on page 50 for events you and your family will enjoy. Pack your picnic baskets and head over to Central Park for a fun-filled experience.
