Life After Bankruptcy: Rebuild Your Credit and Your Life – RJB Law Offices
Most debt problems don’t solve themselves and simply go away. If you are feeling trapped in your situation with no other way out but to file bankruptcy, I understand how difficult it may be for you to make that decision. If done correctly and if appropriate for your situation, from my experience as a bankruptcy attorney for the last 25 years and having successfully represented over 6,000 clients, I find that bankruptcy could be the decision that turns your life around if everything that you’ve tried has not worked for you up to this point. So yes, bankruptcy should always be a last resort, and unfortunately, for most people who consult with me, it may be their only option and lifeline that they need.
Being in debt can cause severe anxiety and fear about the future. What will happen if you get sued by creditors? Will you be able to survive if your wages were garnished? Most people are already struggling as it is and with a wage garnishment, there’s no way they would be able to pay their rent, mortgage and afford even the basic living needs. Sadly, most people are only one paycheck away from bankruptcy unless they have an emergency fund that they can tap into. And if you have assets or real property that may be at risk, your situation can only get worse if creditors are able to reach those assets. Don’t let this happen to you! You’ve worked so hard to get where you are and to have what you have. In more than 90% of the bankruptcy cases I handle, clients lose nothing.
The worst thing that you can do is to wait too long until you have a financial emergency in your hands! You may have heard a lot of negative things about bankruptcy and so I don’t blame you if that’s the last thing you’d ever want to do. After all, you’ve probably heard that once you file, you will never be able to get credit again-that you’ll never be able to buy a house or purchase a car ever again. This is pure nonsense. Even with a bankruptcy on your record, realistically, you can rebuild your credit in about 3 years so that you have a credit score that is high enough to let you get credit cards, car and home loans again as if you never filed bankruptcy. That’s the truth that creditors don’t want you to know.
See, bankruptcy is a beginning, not the end. There are positive steps you can take to rebuild your credit again after bankruptcy. Sure, it may take you 3 years before you can get credit again. But that’s not too long considering the benefits to be gained in becoming free from debt so that you can start all over again, is it? If you need a fresh financial start, keep in mind that bankruptcy is simply a tool that can get you there. Do you know where most people would be today unless they were given a second chance to start over at some point in their lives? Debt problems happen even to the best of us.
Bankruptcy is certainly not for everyone. But you’ll never know if it’s the right solution for you until you at least find out where you stand and the different options that might be available to you. Filing for bankruptcy protection automatically stops all creditor actions such as harassing phone calls, collections letters, lawsuits, wage garnishments, foreclosure and repossession. I offer a free confidential consultation to determine if bankruptcy is right for you.
