Embrace The New Me
So, you say you want to change some things in your life? Sounds easy. Studies have shown that most people do not carry their New Year resolutions for more than one or two months. True. Change is hard but nothing is impossible.
There are a few mental blocks that prevent us from going for the goals we set for ourselves. We procrastinate and avoid change because it’s easier to remain in our comfort zone.
We’d rather believe our narrative that it’s too dangerous to change. We lose hope before we even start, worrying it’d be too long and too hard, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Fear of failure sneaks in. What if it won’t work? There’s also a fear of how others will react. What if they’ll reject the new me; knowing that it’s only up to me to embrace my new self. And there’s a fear of success. Will I be able to handle my new reality?
We need to break these mental blocks one by one; to rewire our brains to believe in ourselves. We must build new sets of beliefs, chant new mantras daily, and imagine ourselves already where we wish to be. Remember, challenges are always opportunities to grow. Break goals into small attainable steps. Start with one small new habit for a short time and then increase to more time and more changes. Seeing small satisfying results will keep us motivated. Join a support group for positive feedback. Stay focused and committed no matter how long it takes to accomplish your goals. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but small progress is still better than no change at all. Friedrich Nietzsche said: “He who has a why to live, will almost bear any how.” You’d be surprised at the new you, with some small changes to your life. The possibilities are endless!
