Fresh Leadership for the College of the Canyons Board
As College of the Canyons (COC) election approaches, four dynamic candidates—Darlene Trevino, Scott Schauer, Fred Arnold, and Sharlene Johnson—are running to bring much-needed change to the board. Each of these candidates brings unique strengths, but they share a common commitment to putting students first, supporting staff, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and restoring transparency at COC.
Darlene Trevino, running for the Area 1 seat, is a strong advocate for students and the community. Her experience in leadership and advocacy positions her as a candidate ready to listen and respond to the needs of students and faculty alike. Trevino is focused on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring students are at the heart of every decision, and fostering an inclusive atmosphere where all voices are heard. If elected, she will work tirelessly to make COC a place where every student can succeed.
Scott Schauer, candidate for Area 2, brings extensive leadership experience and a sharp focus on student success. Schauer is committed to redirecting the board’s focus back to its core mission of serving students. With a collaborative leadership style, he aims to support both students and staff, ensuring that everyone has the resources they need to thrive. Schauer also understands the importance of financial responsibility and is dedicated to ensuring COC’s resources are used effectively to benefit students and improve the college’s programs.
Fred Arnold, running for the Area 3 seat, is known for his expertise in financial management. Arnold’s background in managing budgets and ensuring fiscal responsibility makes him an ideal candidate to oversee COC’s finances. He is dedicated to promoting transparency and accountability in budget decisions, making sure that every dollar is spent wisely to support student programs and services. Arnold believes that sound financial stewardship is essential for the college’s long-term stability and success.
Sharlene Johnson, candidate for the Area 4 seat, has deep roots in community involvement. Her long-standing commitment to the community gives her a clear understanding of the needs and concerns of the people COC serves. Johnson is passionate about building a stronger relationship between the college and the community, ensuring that the board is responsive and transparent. She is committed to advocating for students and working alongside faculty and staff to foster an environment where everyone can succeed. Her leadership will help restore trust between the board and the community.
Together, Trevino, Schauer, Arnold, and Johnson offer a fresh vision for College of the Canyons. Their combined focus on students, fiscal stability, and accountability represents the new leadership needed to move COC forward. Electing these candidates will ensure that the board is equipped to tackle future challenges with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to student success.
