Mission Opera to Present American Opera ‘Cold Sassy Tree’ By Carlisle Floyd Set in the early 1900s in rural Georgia
Mission Opera kicks off its 7th Season with Carlisle Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree, an American opera set in 1906 Georgia, based on Olive Ann Burns’ novel. Performances are on October 26 and 27 at 2:00 pm at Canyon High School Performing Arts Center in Santa Clarita. Mission Opera, known for its high-quality American opera and musical theater, continues with Floyd’s Cold Sassy Tree following Susannah in June 2023. Directed by Dr. Joshua Wentz and conducted by Charlie Kim, with Lindsay Aldana as Music Director, the opera features multimedia design and runs for 2 hours and 25 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission. Synopsis: Rucker Lattimore’s plan to marry his employee Love Simpson after his wife’s death causes a stir in the town. The story explores love, acceptance, and change.
