Rockin’ Around the Clock at The History Center SCV Historical Society Celebrates the ‘50s and An Upcoming 50th
With the historic Saugus Train Station as a backdrop, the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society provided an evening of nostalgic entertainment to friends of the Santa Clarita History Center on October 19. The new event, History Hops, will be an annual fundraising activity set around the theme of various eras in the saga of the SCV.
The dance floor was full throughout the evening as people swung to the tunes of Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and more. For a special treat, “Lucy Ricardo” (played expertly by Amber Schwinn) brought the house down when she interviewed for a job hawking Vitameatavegamin! With burgers and fries from The Habit, and beer and cider provided by the Center’s Old Town Newhall neighbor, Pocock Brewing Company, it was the perfect night out.
Choosing the ‘50s for its first History Hops wasn’t random – the Society is getting ready to observe its 50th anniversary in 2025, and to commemorate the important milestone, plans are in the works for the organization’s very first multi-year, community-centered capital campaign to be kicked off in January. The first goal of the fundraising effort will be to raise sufficient capital to bring the iconic Saugus Station, the History Center’s first and anchor acquisition, up to the highest standard in design as a train museum, while maintaining the integrity of its historic past.
Over the years, thousands of Santa Clarita Valley school children have learned about our colorful past at the History Center. Opening the buildings anew underscores the urgency of this major fundraising campaign. The first building to reopen will be the Saugus Station Train Museum, projected for the summer of 2025, with the community’s support. Backing for the campaign will be sought from corporations, organizations, foundations, and individuals.
